The Iraq War

The Iraq war is a great evil, for a just war, rather than being an offensive, preemptive, open-ended, “shock and awe” campaign, must have a just cause, be in proportion to the gravity of the situation, have obtainable objectives, and only be undertaken as a last resort. If there was ever a war that violated every one of these principles it is the Iraq war.

But the problem is not just that waging this war is against every Christian “just war” principle that has ever been formulated. Conducting the war is contrary to the whole spirit of the New Testament. Fighting the war is in opposition to the practice of the early church. Participants in the war violate the express teaching of the sixth commandment: “Thou shalt not kill.” Supporters of the war violate the first commandment: “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.” Although the Bible likens Christians to soldiers, and the Christian life to a battle, the Christian’s weapons are not carnal and his battle is a spiritual one. The Christian is admonished to “put on the whole armor of God,” not a military uniform. His only weapon is “the sword of the spirit, which is the word of God,” not an M16.

Darden North MD - Keep your medicine private

Today's health system will never be fixed until Americans fix themselves. Prevention of disease may appear to be an easy answer to fix the rising costs of healthcare but with an open approach to healthcare education and support of research, the possibilities seem endless.
Governmental meddling in Americans' lives fails miserably --- just look at the abuses of Medicare and Medicaid.

Health Care for America: An American Solution

There's lots of talk about our broken health care system, lots of agreement that something must be done and lots of "solutions" being proposed. Most of the solutions, however, forget about what the overwhelming majority of Americans want--a lifetime guarantee of affordable health care coverage that allows them to choose their doctors and hospitals and protects them from being pushed into poverty if they or their loved ones have a complex condition and need costly services; and, a health care plan that requires personal responsibility and has everyone paying in on a sliding scale for it.

National Rifle Association

Established in 1871, the National Rifle Association is America's oldest civil rights and sportsmen's group. Approximately four million members strong, NRA continues its mission to uphold Second Amendment rights and to advocate enforcement of existing laws against violent offenders to reduce crime. The Association remains the nation's leader in firearm education and training for law-abiding gun owners, law enforcement and the military.

The NRA's Institute for Legislative Action (ILA) serves as the Association's legislative and political arm.

Regarding Intelligent Design

The producers of GOYS (and it's a Florida station - who could have guessed?) have graciously invited me to be the pro-evolution talking head sitting oppositve the pro-creationism talking head and I'm delighted for the opportunity. They've asked me to say a few opening words to spark some debate before the show begins and hopefully prompt a bit of chair throwing.

I don't know what arguments Mr. Hunter will be using, so I'll save those salvos for the show. Let me simply say that most of my thoughts are already available in essay form - see the link to "A Word About Intelligent Design Creationism" available here -> http://www.pandasthumb.org/archives/2007/03/a_word_about_in.html

Choices and Responsiblities

Planned Parenthood of Northeast Florida's mission is to protect and support every person's right to make voluntary, informed decisions about sexuality, reproduction and parenting.
We all want young adults to respect themselves with the decisions they make. Speaking of choices and giving information that consists of medically accurate information allows these young adults to learn the steps of responsiblity. With that responsiblity comes the realization of consequenses both good and bad.

Freedom

The message of pre-marital sexual abstinence communicated to the youth of today is perhaps the most freeing lifestyle one can experience. This is why I am a member of the character-based abstinence training organization Project S.O.S. We are all about freedom!

When a student chooses an abstinence lifestyle they are free to focus on their dreams and goals - academically, athletically, and professionally. They are free of the fear of getting an STD (sexually transmitted disease) or unwanted pregnancy; free of disappointing their parents; free to improve the chances of a healthy marriage; and free to raise their own children in a healthy, long-term relationship. These are the freedoms we share with students in the First Coast. We believe these freedom consequences are good for our youth. I know this is my hope for my own teenager.

Some Evidence

I'll have plenty of commentary for the show, but here are a couple scraps of evidence without commentary (though emphasis was added), the first from the Supreme Court, the other two from the official income tax regulations from 1956.

- Larken Rose

“It is elementary law that every statute is to be read in the light of the Constitution. However broad and general its language it cannot be interpreted as extending beyond those matters which it was within the constitutional power of the legislature to reach.” [McCullough v. Virginia, 172 U.S. 102]

Where the Evidence Leads

Consider how many of the things we now accept as self-evident were the "rantings of madmen" of yesteryear. The earth is spherical, not flat. It goes around the sun, not vice versa. (Remember, only a few hundred years ago people were imprisoned, tortured, and murdered for saying that.) Flying machines are possible. Things too small to see make us sick. "Heat" is a property of substances, not a separate substance. And so on, and so on.

Human progress would happen a lot faster if people gave more weight to evidence and logic than they do to rumor and popular opinion. The same is true when it comes to the federal income tax.

Income tax

Hello, everyone.

I am looking forward to Saturday's radio show on the question of whether there is a law requiring most Americans to pay income tax.

The answer, of course, is yes. The law is called the Internal Revenue Code. If you'd like to see the particular sections that require people to pay income tax, I have them posted on my website here.

The Code is very long, but if you want to understand this basic point you only need to look at about five sections. Most basically, one section says that if you have more than a certain amount of income, you have to file a return, and another section says that if you have to file a return, you have to pay the tax.
