I was supposed to run back to NYC and tell my lefty friends about how backwards it is in the Red State South.
But I didn't feel that way when I left Jacksonville.
I left feeling that I connected with good people and with a deep respect for those who serve this country. If I feel bad about anything, it's that we serve regionally. Up here in New York I don't know anyone who serves, but in Jacksonville I was in a room full of people connected to the military.
That said, I was disturbed by how people seem so ready to invade countries like Iran and expand this war. There seems to be a lack of factual thinking concerning the constitution and our nation's interests.

I lived across the street from the World Trade Center. I watched the planes hit, people jump from the buildings. It was the worst day of my life.
What brought me solace during that time are the principles upon which this country is founded, i.e. the constitution. Dignity and freedom, checks and balances, privacy andindividual protections.
What's bothered me most since that time is how quickly so many Americans were willing to give up those rights. Rights born of our revolution. Jeffersonian rights. Franklin spoke to it more than 200 years ago:
"Those who would give up their liberty in the name of security, deserve neither liberty nor security."

Last night I watched a video of lies made by Bush and Cheney during the build up to Iraq.
Remember the Yellowcake uranium? Remember the remote controlled airplane that could drop bombs on us? Remember the Sarin gas? Remember the mobile biological weapons units?
Now, more than 22,000 of our people have been wounded. More than 3,000 have been killed. Billions and billions wasted on the war while our borders remain insecure and our educational system is falling apart.
Bush and Cheney aren't men. They're draft dodging cowards. Criminals.
