Regarding Intelligent Design

The producers of GOYS (and it's a Florida station - who could have guessed?) have graciously invited me to be the pro-evolution talking head sitting oppositve the pro-creationism talking head and I'm delighted for the opportunity. They've asked me to say a few opening words to spark some debate before the show begins and hopefully prompt a bit of chair throwing.

I don't know what arguments Mr. Hunter will be using, so I'll save those salvos for the show. Let me simply say that most of my thoughts are already available in essay form - see the link to "A Word About Intelligent Design Creationism" available here -> http://www.pandasthumb.org/archives/2007/03/a_word_about_in.html

Scientific theories are explanations that are based on lines of evidence, enable valid predictions, and have been tested in many ways. In contrast, there is also a popular definition of theory—a “guess” or “hunch.” These conflicting definitions often cause unnecessary confusion about evolution. (source)

You are using, by accident I'm sure, the wrong definition of "theory." I mean, gravity is "just a theory" too... any doubt in it? Or do you have an alternative view for this unseen force... maybe the "Intelligent Falling" theory?

If you have any type of faith you would know that Faith comes before Science. There is a theory that a Big Bang was the begging of it all. They key word is THEORY. It is just what the scientist THOUGHT what happened. Everyone should look to their faith if they truly want the answers.

I am certainly no scientist. However, I do remember my advanced chemistry teacher in high school pounding into my head the scientific method. As far as I know, the theory of evolution and the theory of intelligent design, are both just that - a theory. Neither view can completely be confirmed through the scientific method. It seems anyone on either side of the debate must have an enormous amount of faith to believe either one. Personally, would rather believe that I came from Intelligent Design as opposed to some sort of biological accident. No matter who happens to be right, I know (through faith) that God started it all.
