War debate ends in a Recount!

The SoapBox hosted it’s second ever debate Tuesday, January 16th between Anti-War Activist Jason Flores-Williams and former Active Duty Army Captain Trip Bellard III.

Both guests presented emotionally compelling cases and after two rounds of voting by the audience the winner of the coveted Golden Grog Award was CPT Trip.

CPT Trip happily accepted the award but conceded that the Jacksonville demographic certainly worked in his favor.

The debate was spirited and there was no shortage of audience members taking their questions and passionate statements to the Box.

A Vietnam veteran railed against the idea of a New York City anti-war activist who never served in the armed forces speaking out against military involvement in Iraq.

Another gentleman was nearly brought to tears as he described the ultimate sacrifice made by his brother-in-law who was killed in Iraq.

The anti-war members in the audience shared their views as well. One former service member asked what gives the United States the authority to tell another nation they can’t have weapons of mass destruction when the United States itself houses an arsenal of nuclear weapons.
